Story Behind the Photo(s):  LAIR and Director Thor Raxlen, being one of my favorite clients to shoot for due to their incredibly talented, smart staff and awesome commercial work, came to me with the prospect of shooting b-roll for the film stills and video for the “Civil War” trailer for THC (watch it here).  Oh yea, I was stoked about this one.  I remember Thor telling me “I’ve got something fun for ‘ya” and that means LOTS of fun.  It was.  On the road before dawn to get to the Lambertville, New Jersey location, the day went smooth.  Even with pouring rain and client present, LAIR’s flawless production nailed it.  Memorable career day.

Story Behind the Photo(s):  February, 2011 – Commissioned to shoot for Impact Incentives and a week-long conference for their client IPC in Miami Beach, the Heat Dancers served as a nice end to an incredibly productive conference for a thriving company.  I’ll have to admit, while shooting team-building exercises, meetings and wow-your-pants-off speakers can be super interesting to capture, shooting dancers is sheer energy. I hope these images prove me right.

Story Behind the Photo(s):  April, 2012 – When Steven Rothman from thefightingnews.com came to me to shoot this MMA Fight Night event in Ft. Lauderdale, wasn’t sure if I’d be able to work (or sit ringside and gawk at these incredible athletes methodically beat each other up).  But it was an easy decision and up there with my favorite shoots to date.  And my sense is that it was the first of many in the world of mixed martial arts.  The speed of it took some required some adjustments to my shooting but once I caught up, the glory of camera work took off.  I envisioned blood spurting on my lens, spit catching a left hook in to my face and all kinds of gnarly things but I got away clean.  Heck, I wouldn’t have cared anyway – it’s part of getting in there to get the shot and I’ve been dirtied before.

Side note:  I ran in to the Florida State Boxing Commissioner (and old family friend) Tommy Molloy at the bout – what a great surprise.  My father was involved with Tommy when he and Al Gavin were trainers for Willy Wise – some of my father’s fondest memories.  It was totally coincidental, hadn’t seen Tommy in several years and it got the two men back in touch.  Really great.

Lauderdale Executive Airport.  The setting couldn’t be more ideal.  Outdoors, airplanes and gambling with play money.  From the looks of it, this MetLife crowd had a blast from the incredible fare served by JRC to the changing hands of poker chips.

This is the first of two blogs from this event.  The second (post) covers the auction where the nights winners cashed in by bidding on an array of gifts.  Tons.  Of.  Fun.

Story Behind the Photo(s):  March 15, 2012 @ PGA National Resort.  Glenmorangie’s laid back, elegant and fun event with host and brand ambassador David Blackmore coupled with executive chef Gordon Maybury‘s delectable menu was run to perfection.  The host venue (PGA) did an enormous job offering privacy and one of its beautiful outdoor spaces.  I enjoyed simply being a part of it.  I hope you enjoy the images from it…

Story Behind the Photo(s):  2008-2009.  Nathan’s CEO, Eric Gatoff came to me with an idea after having seen some of my earlier works posted on facebook – document (shoot) Coney Island to furnish the walls for their new corporate headquarters.  After a great meeting where I presented what I can do and what the space can look like, the job was won.  Over the course of the year to follow, I shot all I could possibly have seen of Coney Island – about the amount of time they had to have the completed series shot and to print on (or about) their move-in date.

Below, all the selects we thought would work best between me and the powers that be and ultimately Gatoff, Wayne Norbitz (President), and Don Schedler (VP, Architecture).  Additionally, Nathan’s decided that an installation of ALL of the roughly 500 final images I submitted would be featured as an installation on 4 LCD screens located in the reception area.  Dynamic.  Here are images from the body work.

All of these images are printed in sizes ranging from 24×32 – 48×60 on my signature giclee and gracing the walls throughout the Nathan’s HQ’s.
